Food industries have a long and complex history with their packaging.

Packaging is necessary for transport and handling, to protect fragile foods, to defend the identity of a product, etc.

But the processes to replace or evolve existing packaging take time, especially since they involve so many parameters, including quality, safety, practicality, cost (of course) and, naturally, the environment.

Because regulations and expectations are changing

In Europe, regulatory changes and new consumer and distributor expectations are forcing manufacturers to act, and act quickly. In the European Union, all plastic packaging will have to be reusable or recyclable by 2030, and the Packaging Directive requires a 50% plastics recycling rate in Europe by 2025 and 55% by 2030.

France’s target is even more ambitious: 75% by 2025.
